The everyday practice
Make the everyday meal easier.
The hard part of dinner is often everything that comes before it: deciding, shopping, preparing, and cleaning up. A shared approach to food begins by making that work visible.
Plan for the week you have.
Look at the evenings ahead before choosing meals. A late finish needs an easy option. A quieter evening might leave room to cook together. Keep a few familiar meals in rotation instead of expecting fresh inspiration every day.
Build from foods you enjoy.
Start with something you both like and choose what goes alongside it. A simple meal can bring together a protein food, vegetables or fruit, and a grain or other starchy food. Leave space for different appetites, preferences, and dietary needs.
Share more than the cooking.
Deciding what to eat and noticing what is running out are work too. Agree on who handles the shopping, preparation, and cleanup. Sharing a meal need not mean that one person carries every step that makes it happen.
A question for the two of you
