The everyday practice
Give the day a softer landing.
Sometimes you arrive home before your attention does. Work, messages, and unfinished tasks can follow you into the evening. A small transition gives you a chance to notice what you are bringing with you.
Name the transition.
Before stepping into the next part of your day, take a moment to say what you need. A little quiet, a change of clothes, or time outside might help you feel ready to reconnect. Let your partner know what to expect instead of leaving them to guess.
Make a pause easy to ask for.
Agree on a simple way to say that you need a break. If a conversation becomes difficult, be clear about when you will return to it. Space is more useful when it comes with a plan to reconnect.
Choose a rhythm that fits.
Try a quieter end to the evening, a few minutes without messages, or a short walk. Your preferences may differ. Find one shared practice that feels welcome to both of you, and keep individual ways of unwinding too.
