Welcome to Sync + Thrive, the bi-weekly newsletter helping couples strengthen their relationship through shared health. Every Friday, we share real-life reflections and actionable insights. If you were forwarded this message, sign up here.
On Friday, we talked about rocking horse stress and how tension transfers between partners without either of you meaning for it to happen. We understand your week is busy; our resets are kept short and actionable so you can put them into practice today.
Here's what to try: instead of waiting until stress has already spread, interrupt it early with a shared pause.
Understanding Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria: How This App Can Help
For many with ADHD, a simple "no" can feel like a world-ending nightmare. This is Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD), and it makes navigating daily life painfully hard.
Developed by clinical psychologists, Inflow helps you understand and navigate RSD triggers using science-backed strategies.
In just 5 minutes a day, you can learn to prevent unhelpful thoughts and build deep emotional resilience. Stop spiraling and start reframing your thinking with a custom learning plan designed for your brain.
This Week's Reset
When you notice stress starting to transfer (short answers, tight shoulders, faster pace), pause together for 60 seconds.
How it works:
Stand facing each other.
Place your hands on each other's shoulders or hearts. (We prefer hearts.)
Match each other’s breaths without speaking for 60 seconds. Notice where you feel tension in your body, and breathe out the stress when you exhale.
If you have time, do this exercise three times together.

This works because the parasympathetic nervous system (your body's natural stress regulator) responds to shared presence and synchronized breathing. When you pause together, you're signaling both nervous systems that the moment is safe. The vagus nerve sends impulses from your body back to your brain, downregulating the stress response for both of you.
You won't always eliminate stress, but you can learn to bring it down before it takes over.
Even 60 seconds of shared stillness can bring your heart rate back to baseline, stopping stress from multiplying.
Want to go deeper? Try Wim Hof's guided breathing method together. We do this regularly, and it releases tension immediately.
💡Tip: When first starting, lie down while doing this exercise.

🤝 Couple's Check-In Prompt
When did we pause this week before stress took over?
Take a few minutes to answer this together. This is not to analyze what went wrong, but to notice what went right.
Every minute you spend finding some peace in your day helps you both handle stress just a little bit better.
